The Challenge
Atria Senior Living owns and operates over 230 senior living facilities across 35 states and seven Canadian provinces, making it one of the largest senior living companies in the world. A heavy user of PeopleSoft HCM and finance for several decades, Atria was seeing its PeopleSoft application’s performance degrade every month due to the volume of historical data being maintained within the application. Atria needed a solution for archiving this data with the goal of improving performance across both online and batch processing.
The Solution
Atria hired WorkStream to lead it through an eight-month data archiving project from start to finish. WorkStream recommended the PeopleSoft Data Archive Manager toolset, since it was already included within Atria’s existing PeopleSoft subscription and is a well-known data archiving tool. WorkStream led teams across Atria’s HCM, finance, benefits, and payroll departments to understand archiving needs, identify specific rules or regulatory requirements around archiving data, and draft a comprehensive business process plan specifying which data elements, and how much of each, would be archived to improve performance metrics. Upon approval of this strategy, WorkStream created all the data archiving rules and configurations needed to support those objectives. By the project’s conclusion, archiving had reduced the overall size of the HCM and finance applications by 65 percent, cut batch processing time by 23 percent, and markedly improved online application response. The archived data remained available for reporting purposes even as the overall data footprint was reduced.
The Results
- Application size cut 65% — The data archiving process reduced the overall size of Atria’s HCM and finance applications by 65 percent.
- Batch processing 23% faster — Archiving cut batch processing time by 23 percent while also improving online application response.
- Cross-departmental scope covered — WorkStream led archiving efforts across Atria’s HCM, finance, benefits, and payroll departments.
- Reporting access preserved — Archived data remained available for reporting purposes even as the overall data footprint was reduced.
